Ya, I have melasma from the pill and even though I've been off it for 5 years its still been a struggle. But I have lightened about 75% of by :
*Getting off hormones
*Vitamin C Serum
*Alpha Hydroxy Acids
*Retinol
*Sunscreen, hats & sunglasses. (hats only when in the sun for extended amounts of time).
This melasma is very stubborn. Also, fyi: When I got off the pill, I switched to a non-hormonal IUD. They usually only insert it in women who have given birth at least once. It was painful to have it inserted but sooooo worth it. It works for 10 years.

Mine all of a sudden appeared last winter out of nowhere! I haven't been pregnant in 8 years & not on the pill. My dermo says it's excessive sun exposure - perhaps from the past:( So now every time is go in the sun it darkens although I use 30-45 screen, hat, glasses. Yes, I was a sun worshiper back in the day (I'm in my 40's) but was also careful & have olive skin so I usually don't burn. Anyway, I hate it...I've tried a skin bleaching cream all winter and it lightened but it didn't go away completely. However, I was in Florida 2 weeks ago and although I used sunscreen and a hat it's super dark again! I just bought a vit c serum, have retin-A to use and read about fresh lemon juice.
My dermo said that she can try chemo peels and/or laser treatments in the fall.
Has anyone tried lemon juice or these professional treatments? I was trying to stay away from the skin bleaching creams because of all the crap in them.

Even if you haven't had a child, you may still be able to find a doctor who will agree to it. Its usually not covered by insurance, mine was about $400. Technically I didnt give birth either. I had a C-Section. If youre really interested I would do some research & talk to your dr. about the pros & cons for your particular situation.

I have an IUD, I've had 0 babies! :) Doctors will do it, just not all of them like Marleen said! Mine cost $525 USD but it lasts for 5 years so will end up being cheaper than the pill in the long run (for me at least) and it stops my period. However, I have the Mirena IUD that has hormones. I would suggest looking into the Paragard which I think is the one Marleen is talking about. :)

Yes, I have the Paragard! After a certain age, I just felt I had to stop the hormones. Best decision I ever made. I would have paid a $1000. No worries about taking a pill everyday. And it had no effect on my periods. And yes, it is better investment. I actually wanted my tubes tied but my gyno persuaded me not to. So thats how I came to get the IUD. I was set on NO HORMONES. Its more risky when you're older like me.

I love my IUD-- no hormones, no fuss, no pills. A lot of those meds are contraindicated in my case. Mine was courtesy of the military and inbuprofen before hand reduced discomfort for insertion. I am, however, terrified of the removal as I had some friends with bad bleeding. I'm stalling til I can move back by family...just in case.

My mom has Multiple Sclerosis and her meds interfered with the hormones too, she was able to get the Paragard as well! I'm so glad to hear all these these other ladies loving their IUDs I feel like I only hear horror stories but I love mine!

I Agree with Rozberry a light peel then try using Vitamin C serum and Isomers.dark spot liberator along with there wrinkle liberator ,you wanna.use this not just to keep wrinkles away but because it has a technology called solar vitis which protects the skin against ultraviolet rays and helps to clear pigmentation problems.

Yes Donna even a light peel leaves you red and a little bit peeling but that's normal.

You can put bb cream on with spf,or get it on a fri,by mon you will be fine this is a light peel we are talking about not a deep peel you have to make sure you do your research before you go into have it done and see what kind of peel they use and if there is any down time

There are all kinds TCA,OBAGi,Aha,Dr,Dennis Gross professional peel,each place will offer different kinds you just want the lighter strength one ,Obagi and TCA are some of the best they are going to be light to medium ,they do offer deep peels as well in those lines so just be sure you get a thorough consultation ,and tell them what your trying to achieve.
