Hey everyone! So I am starting to freelance and I am starting to build my kit. I was wondering if anyone has any holy grail makeup items or products in general that are necessities for a professional to have in their kit, or any of your personal fav things? Thank so much! Xo.

I've found that it's always best to try to bring ANYTHING you can think of lol. It seems to always end up that the makeup artist on set is like the go-to for a lot of stuff. Like baby wipes, tissues, body lotion, sunscreen, etc. Even the crew will sometimes come to you for small things. It's not mandatory but I find it's nice to carry the extra things so that the people who hire you can see you're prepared and go above and beyond. I try to bring along anything I can that I think people may need to be more comfortable, as far as beauty/toiletries, etc. goes. Like hair clips, hair ties, sunscreen, body lotion, lip balm, contact lens solution, eye drops, nail files, small scissors, breath mints, toner and cotton pads, face lotion, eye cream, hand sanitizer (which you should have tons of anyway), makeup removers and baby wipes, band-aids, etc. My kit is like a bottomless box of random goodies lol. Of course I bring all the makeup I need, and usually a lot I may not need just in case something changes or I change my mind about a look. Also a protective cape to put over anyone you're doing makeup on. That is a must. You don't want to ruin someone's costume or clothing by accident. It's not such a big risk with beauty as it is with special effects but when you're on set or your client is wearing really nice clothing you don't want to take any chances. Just the other day I accidentally flung Bb cream onto myself and two huge blobs went right onto my shirt. It came out luckily but I had to wash it, you probably won't have the luxury of that on set so it's always best to try to avoid those situations.
Also, your business cards! Hand them out or set them out where people can see them. Someone may need you later on or will pass it on to someone else that does
