I use mineral foundation and a top up powder daily and I always notice its darker when I get home and it always look really bad like almost holey and patches have gone really dark and spots are missing of the foundation. Can anyone explain why? And how can I prevent it?

Your foundation could be oxidizing causing it to darken and the ingredients in your moisturizer and makeup could be disagreeing.

What is oxidising exactly?

It could be several things
Your skin and its PH
Your skin care routine may need more time to absorb
A bad product or bad setting powder
Try a setting spray instead of a setting powder. Jacqueline recommends Kat Von D and I'm going to be getting a bottle soon
Make sure you use a good primer as well underneath your foundation.

It's a chemical reaction caused by your skins natural oils and the ingredient in the makeup.

Oxidizing is basically a process where exposure to oxygen (or the air) causes a chemical reaction between the product and your skin so that it changes color compared to what is originally in the bottle - it can't be helped in some cases as kitty mentioned your skin plays a role in the process but you can prevent it with certain products I'm sure kitty n miss Jacqueline can provide more info on that as well.

It's because your makeup is oxidizing. What foundation are you using?
You can prevent this from either buying a new foundation, or using a primer. I would start with a primer first and see if it makes a difference. A primer basically creates a barrier between your skin and your foundation. If you still have the same problem I would suggest trying a different foundation since some foundations oxidize more than others. Also, try using a setting powder. Powders usually always oxidize slightly which is why you should use a powder 1-2 shades lighter than your skin tone.

Primer helps and using hd powder helps. Def keep oxidizing in mind when choosing a shade. It may seem light going on but it always changes for me within 15 min.

If it looks patchy I would probably check it or reapply mid day.
