Do you have facial masking? Aka, the center of your face is a bit lighter then the outer portion of your face? It's common in African American women and it's normally suggested for us to match to both the inner and outer portion of our faces and blend to get the perfect shade.
Now if your face is evenly one color I would head into your nearest beauty store (Sephora, Ulta, or even a Macys with a MAC counter) and get color matched. You don't have to buy anything, but you can use the match you get on a foundation matching website to look for the same color in other brands that will work for you.

Have you ever considered mixing foundation? sometimes a certain brand may not make your shade so if you mix one a little lighter with one that matches your face maybe it could match better?

Have you thought about getting two and mixing them?

And by blend I mean the falter one goes on the darker portions of your face and the lighter one on the lighter parts, not mix the two together.

Darker one not falter one, bleh.

Plus contouring and highlighting may help alittle with balancing.

Hi Erin!! Yes!! My cheeks and middle part of my forehead is lighter. Such a problem. I am thinking about going to the mac place they have in the nearest Dillard's. I didn't know it would be such a problem finding something that will make me one tone.

Laura, hi! No I haven't. Yet! Unfortunately, I am just starting to try to find a foundation. I knew I would find help from you lovely ladies! But I am still in the trial and error stage 😞

Erin and Veronica, I haven't tried those techniques just yet! But I plan to. It's been so frustrating. So, should I get a lighter color foundation and a darker color foundation and mix them?

Erin M.
You'll find your face looking a little flat and less illuminated if you try to make it one tone as you won't have the contrast anymore.
But nope, don't mix them, apply them to the different part of your faces. The lighter foundation on the lighter part, darker on the darker part, and apply/blend.
She shows it here better then I can explain it

Do what Erin says. she's dead on!..
n a lot of brands don't get our undertone right. I can't find a match with queen either.
I'd also like to suggest something thinner. I started out with Mary Kay tinted moisturizer. a little goes a long way. I used bronze1 for the longest!.ers your complextion shine they and also gives you coverage. so a tinted moisturizer (or now more popular a bb cream) is a good start for woman with deeper skin tones. :)
have fun at try MAC, Clinique, and even fashion fair if they have it at your dillards. get samples and wear it in day light. walk around the mall, see how it adjust.
I'm lighter in the center but I only use one shade (unless I'm really getting dolled up) you can make one shade work. just have to find the right one. :)
