start off figuring out what features you want to enhance. if you love your lips start by trying to find the perfect lipstick or gloss. try browsing through the photos on beautylish to find looks you like then ask the artist which brands he or she used to create the look. I personally like to use a mix of different brands. are you near a Sephora at all? it might be a good idea to pop into one because they have a large variety of brands to choose from and many of the associates are pretty knowledgeable about the different lines. I'm a big fan of foundation personally so if you'd like to start with that you are going to want to figure out your skin type to figure out which formulation is best for you.

Well Liza, my favorite features are my eyes & my lips so those are what i would focus on. Unfortunately I dont live near a Sephora, but if i'm ever in the are of one, I'll be sure to take that advice. As far as my skin type, i think i have combination skin. I hve to find out for sure though. Thank you for the advice! :)

Try figuring out your skin type. Do you have dry skin? Oily skin? Normal? Combination? Figuring that out alone can REALLY help you finding a foundation that can work for you. Matte finishes are great for oily & combo skin as they tend to control oil better. Dewey and/or natural finish foundations are great for dryer skin types as they don't accentuate dry patches on your skin. Most higher end foundations (not drugstore) will usually say on their website what finish it is, if not, you can find reviews. Most of them will include what finish it is. =]
Another VERY important thing is to figure out what your skin's undertone is. Your understone is basically the base of your skin color. There are 3 you could have. Warm (yellow), Neutral (in between or no undertone at all), or cool (pink) - Just from looking at your photos, I feel like you have a warm undertone. Your skin is more golden than it is pink. (I'm the same! =D)
L'oreal True Match foundations are actually categorized by skin's undertone. W. N. C. Buying these to try & really get to know your skin color can really help you learn what looks best on your skin. (Plus, the foundation is pretty good!) If you look at these, try going through the W (warm) section, you could find a great match for you!
On THAT note, since your warm toned, try to stay away from neutral or pink tones as much as possible. On your skin color, neutral tones can easily make your skin look ashy & that's something nobody wants. Pink toned foundations can make you look... pink. lol It just wont look natural.
If you go to a drugstore, I really do suggest looking at the differences in undertone in these foundations. Getting that down will make shopping for makeup VERY easy!

Andrea, the more I think about my skin type, the more i think that it depends on the weather . My face tends to be dry during the winter & combination during the summer. I'm glad you let me know my undertone because i had no idea what all of that even meant! lol thanks so much for your advice. As soon as i figure out my skin type, i can get started :-D

I started off with maybelline mega plush and that started it all. And that was about five dollars at Walmart. The thing you have to do is first find a foundation that you like does not have to be any thing super fancy or costly. Then Find a great lip treatment. Eyeshadow I use the traditional colors. You really don't need much to get started it all depends on the person and what you think you need. So I hope I helped and feel free to ask me about anything.

If you like your eyes, spend time on perfecting eyeliner application to make them pop. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? That will determine whether or not you should start with any foundations or bold lips or anything like that. Welcome to the world of makeup!

Angelica, i actually have been practicing alot with eyeliner & i LOVE how it looks on me. i particularly like the cat eye, especially since i already have almond shaped eyes. Your question about my age proves that i need makeup! lol I'll be 22 next year & i still look close to 12! lol i used to pride myself on natural beauty, but now i'm getting older & older. Plus, i just became a mommy a few weeks ago. It's time to start looking like one, so it's definitely time for something different ^_^

Congrats on being a new mommy!!! That's awesome :) If you're just starting out I would DEFINITELY recommend Stila self adjusting blush. They have it in coral and pink (I have both! And love them so much!) They are made to be able to detect the pH of your skin, and the blush self adjusts to your skin tone. These could be a great place to start in terms of blush - and don't be afraid of what the colors look like in the case! They look super bright but I promise they really do self adjust!!! Two of my favorite items in my collection :)

Oh and if you're looking for new eye shadow styles, I would definitely recommend going to your local drug store and picking up some eyeshadow palettes that come with instructions (brow, crease, lid). Almay makes gorgeous ones, and each palette is supposed to be used on a different eye color. Wet and wild has them too, as does maybelline and (perhaps?) Revlon!

Hahah sorry I'm posting so much I just keep thinking of things!!! A couple of essentials - primers!
Basically for every part of your face theres a primer: eyeshadow primer, eyelash primer, foundation primer, lip primer. Basically what each of these does is prep your face and help te makeup stay on longer.
Eyeshadow primer helps the eyeshadow to stick and helps avoid creasing from the shadow. It really, really does wonders. You can see night and day difference when you prime your lids! I use urban decay primer potion (original)
Lash primer goes on your lashes before mascara to make them longer and thicker.
Foundation primer is the most essential in my opinion. Once you find your foundation that suits your skin tone if you decide to use foundation, I'd definitely try a primer. Most are silica based, so what they do is fill in your pores and any fine lines, etc on your skin. This creates a smooth surface for the foundation to glide effortlessly over and create a flawless finish!
Lastly, as you can probably guess, lip primer helps your lipstick stay and prevents fading. It also fills in the creases of your lips so matte lipsticks appear smooth :)
Hope my novel helped!! Haha! Let me know if you have any questions!

Oh, and I use spackle face primer (ulta.com) by Laura geller, urban decay lip primer (sephora.com) and Dior eyelash primer when I use eyelash primer!
