Is the white one a lace? If it is I would cut some holes in tge legs of the darkest pair and then sew lace in! I would probably do the pockets on one as you mentioned before and then on another pair I would cut one of the back pockets off and replace it with the red bandana fabric and also sew the same fabric over the belt loops just to add something else! If you're interested in making shorts then I would cut them off a little longer, sew one of the fabrics around the bottom inside, and then cuff them so you can see the fabric :) Just a few ideas, hope it helped some!
