What I do is, I have differ types of foundations for different seasons. I buy a matte foundation for summer, waterproof for rains and a dewey finish for winters. But my skin is acne prone so they're all oil free and non comedogenic.

I'm the same way, my skin has never stayed the same so I just buy a handful of different foundations and alternate through them :) what was it about your foundation that made your professor say that it wasn't right?

I use Nars Sheer Matte Foundation for summers, it feels really light on my skin and got light to medium coverage. For winters I love the Graftobian HD foundation, has an all day dewey finish that I love!

Oh and, I forgot about my HG waterproof foundation! I love Dinair Airbrush foundation (I rarely use an airbrushing gun though), but this foundation will last 8 hours of constant, zany pool partying! A friend who is going to become a makeup pro recommended it to me and its amazing!

Also, us oily skinned girls do need a mattifying primer and a setting spray, if you use both, you can easily keep your skin to behave similarly in all seasons. Those two products make a huge difference. I have been using the Korres Pomegranate Mattifying Primer lately and it does mattify real well with no pore clogging, Cover FX has a mattifying anti acne primer which is great too. Also recently bought the Urban Decay oil control setting spray which I have used only twice, it keeps my makeup looking fresh and oil at bay for 4 hours so far (haven't worn that longer so)

I agree with Ame! Have a few options available to you depending on the weather and the state of your skin. Sometimes you'll want a little more coverage, an SPF, a long wearing foundation, or maybe something a little creamier if your skin gets dry and is sensitive. Even my favourite foundation (Nars sheer glow) can look patchy if my skin is too dry, so I switch it up to a bb cream or something creamier.
