I would use a wand. one thats thicker at the base and gets thinner towards the end.

You're going to need a smaller iron, bigger ones won't allow it to spiral. Try a curl spray (heat protectant/hair spray). :)

You can use a 1 in barrel. A wand a curling iron is best an curl your hair away from your face
