Prom dress ideas

I'm planning on sewing a dress and I need ideas. Nothing poofy. Something that would fit my figure though.
For color I was think red or blue.
I already have a dress but I just want to sew one. If it turns out good I just have a dress for another prom :)
So what do you girls think I should do?
