I think you could create a really simplistic, traditional smokey eye with the black, the brown shade and the cream colored highlight shade =) Jackie could give you an explanation a million times better, but what I do is:
-Smudge black eyeliner all over my lid (I prefer Urban Decay's Perversion pencil for this, but a creamy gel lined like Make Up For Ever's Aqua Cream in Black or Stila Smudge Pot in Black will work just as well)
-Run the lightest shade from my crease up to my eyebrow
-Apply the middle brown shade to my crease and blend into the highlight color
-Apply the black to my lid, over the eyeliner and blend well into the brown.
the part that I take from Jackie is as follows:
-Step back from the mirror, look at your eyes, and if you can see any sort of harsh lines at all, whip out a clean blending brush and go to town.

I would put the lightest color all over the lid and the second darkest color on your crease then use a dark color for your outer corner and then blend :)
