My skin get quite oily and I've found that liquid foundation does not work for my skin. Any suggestions on what type of foundation I should use??

First before you apply any foundation run makeup wipes all over your face and primer. It'll hopefully help

Like Amelia said, liquid foundation works just fine for oily skin, it just depends on what products you use.
definitely look for a mattifying primer & matte foundation. I personally use Too Faced Primed & Poreless, & NARS Sheer Matte foundation & I stay matte all day long.
you also need to set your foundation with a setting powder. if not, it will begin to melt slightly & then more around or sink into your pores/fine lines, which you don't want. I use the Tarte Smooth Operator powder, mainly because it is also mattifying & it minimizes the look of your pores.
you could also try a setting spray. they help reduce that powdery look & also keep makeup in place much longer.
