@Jacqlyn, I don't mean to be a pesky spoiler, but Hydroquinone is linked to be a carcinogen (a cancer causing agent), products containing Hydroquinone are banned in Europe, Japan and Australia.

My mum who is a doctor says that it is still to be proved that Hydroquinone causes cancer in humans, but it is most likely. Also, it does appear to lighten skin at first but continued usage causes thickening of skin and darkening. The FDA was supposed to ban Hydroquinone products in USA in 2009, but for some reason the ban couldn't be implemented, I suggest you talk to your doctor about this.
