Battle Between Lip Balms.

I received a full-size La Mer Lip Balm from a Saks Fifth Avenue manager during a weekend shopping trip some time ago. She raved about this $50 lip balm like a maniac and insisted that I try it. Didn't hurt my pocketbook as she gifted one for me and another for my MIL. I decided to compare it against my beloved $3.99 Nivea Lip Butter.

Well, I must say that the La Mer performed the same as my much more affordable counterpart. My MIL didnt like the minty taste of La Mer so I managed to snag her freebie as well. Will I repurchase after both are finished? Heck no!! For $50 bucks is a too much money for a lip balm even though it does moisturize and its heaven on my lips after the various medical treatments I've been having I will not splurge on something like this in the future. It plays well under all my lipsticks and even by itself it doesn't appear white on my lips like my Nivea if I apply a thick layer of it.

So for those who were curious about both lip balms Nivea takes the cake for price but both perform equally well.

Wauw 50$ for a lip balm!!
For that amount I would expect it to be so so crazy better then anything I had ever tried!

Dang 50 for a lip balm is ridiculous, especially if it doesn't perform better than a drugstore lip butter! Crazy crazy crazy.

@Sabrina...that's what I said when I saw the price!! My MIL is very outspoken and she asked the manager does it come with a boy toy and a bottle of wine. I almost peed my pants. Its definitely not a WOW life changing must have. I love my Nivea though.

Lolol! Your MIL is a pistol! Have you ever tried Smith's Rosebud salve? I was wondering how it compared to the Nivea. I love my Fresh sugar balm, but got it as a freebie. I agree with you ladies that there are plenty of reasonably priced options that are just as effective.

@Tina...yes I do have Smith's Rosebud salve and I find it just way too slippery for my liking to wear by itself but to moisten the lips under other lipsticks...it works just fine. I actually like using it on my cuticles and on the heels of my feet.

@Naomi...I wish I could do the Maybelline baby lips...sends my lips into sahara desert territory. But my daughter loves and collects them.

I actually like rose salve alone vs under lipsticks. for the same reason you said. its a big more greasy/slippery..lol..

I was shocked that babylips worked for me. but happy it dies of course. I buy the double packs.
the nivea that's in the same type of case works for me as well. but I gave my granny a nivea gift set over the holidays with her present n it had that same tin balm. eventho they don't work so well for me she loved it.

*bit

I swear by Nivea natural milk and honey- have 11 tubes around the house! Baby lips don't work for me and I hate the soapy taste

I'm still in awe over the $50 price tag for this tiny container. That's a full tank of gas for my car, another eye palette, date night at the movies, two months worth of dog food for my dog and foster dog. I love some high-end goods but La Mer is crazy sick.lol.

@Tina...from researching online I found another lip balm from Sisley for $75 bucks. But this is the same company that has a $119 liquid foundation.lol.

Great thread, Shelly!!
I need to try the Nivea. I'm kind of a balm junkie. Threw my babylips and Eos out. Clark's Botanicals...total waste of my hard-earned cash. Elf is okay. I love their flavors..addition..lol Happy with Smiths, but the tin isn't threaded and a b*tch to open.

Adore my sugar lip, but have to store it in the fridge all summer and it melts in my purse. Still my fav though.
I'm thinking Nivea just might be a new fav. Can't wait to try it.

What REALLY works is that Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment. I need to just pony up the money for it, my poor lips. I'm on medication that dries me out so much.

I have every one of the maybelline baby balms. Except two of the new medicated ones. I adore these and they are fun just to look at. I wouldn't spend fifty bucks on a lip balm. But score for getting them free. Trying new stuff is great and now you can keep anyone who was thinking of buying it a review. Thanks oxxo.
