Primer is to go on before makeup to make your face products stay in place n last all day. Concealer is to conceal dark circles under your eyes n blemishes. It's also could b used to highlight under the eyes nose forehead n around the mouth if you get about 2 shades lighter. It can also b used to contour if you do it right n get 2 shades darker

Hello Marybeth!
This is a great question. The way I see this is I picture, painting a painting, Like a face the canvas needs to be primed first before you can begin your master piece.
So like the beautiful Shelby and Morghan have stated so far, a primer helps minimize the look of pores, helps the make up stay longer, but it also smoothes the skin's surface to ensure ease the application of your other facial produces (concealer, foundation, powders, blush etc.), reduces shine, and most importantly, creates a barrier between your skin and your make up. This is really important to ensure you avoid clogging your pores with foundation.
So onto concealer, there are two different types of concealer "types." You have these coloured concealers that are tinged (green, yellow, purple etc.) and their purpose is to conceal the off set natural shadows in a person's complexions. Say for example you have a lot of reddness and acne, one should apply a green concealer, to conceal the redness.
So then we have the skin toned colours, and generally I use them to just highlight the face with, or brighten areas on the face that seem to have a natural shadow, or pigmentation.
If my explanation is a bit confusing feel free to message me about anything. I hope this helps you discover the purpose for priming and concealing. Good luck Marybeth.
