You let it soak in water, right? Then squeezed out all the water but still had it grow significantly in size?

Are you dampening it when you use it? It works best when damp. Also, make sure you're using patting motions.

Run it under water, and keep squeezing it in the water until it grows. Take it out of the water and squeeze it out. I like to also squeeze it out into my towel afterwards, so that there's not a ton of water on it. You basically want it to be damp! Then when your applying your foundation stipple/bounce it on your face! You can also use rolling motions. Another way to use it is, apply your foundation as usual with the brush of your choice, and go over your face with the beauty blender to make sure everything is perfectly blended :)
