Vitamin c has been working for me in the form of creams or from fresh lemons - also exfoliation helps too.

Another vote for Vitamin C. But get it in serum form & not cream. Its more potent & sinks into the skin better. Also you must use an spf of at least 30 to prevent the the sun from darkening the discoloration. One day of sun can undo 6 months of progress.
