Using a Demi 5n I got horrible results. I'm trying to stop with the permanents because they are rough and I'm slowly going back to natural. So it darkened the lengths of my hair and turned my root area a bright orange-brown... Please help me fix this... I don't want to cover it with a darker color, as my natural is an ashy light brown, and the lengths are way darker than that.

What would happen if I put a 6n on it?? Would they still be super bright? My plan is to let everything fade for a couple more weeks then go back with a 6n. How can I prevent this from happening again? Perhaps apply to the roots for 20 min then pull it through to the lengths?

* pull through to lengths after 20 min so they only process for 15.

Are you dying it darker or lighter? Your roots always process faster due to the hair being newer.
