So I recently posted a thread that was titled "smokey eye for idiots" and it didn't get any comments, I am thinking there might be a glitch or ever worst it kind of sounded like the smokey eye look is for idiots. Which I didn't mean that at all! I meant like smokey eye for dummies so I can understand how to do it!

For a really simple smokey eye, I'd say use neutral or brown colors. The way I do a smokey eye is use a light color by the tear duct and then a medium brown in the middle of your eye and a dark brown on the end. Maybe a little black on the very end. I'll try to find a picture :)

A technical smokey eye is hard to master, and Jacqueline gives a far better explanation than I will, but an actual smokey eye is a concentration of dark color all over your lid, a medium shade in your crease, and a lighter shade under your eyebrow. That's the simplest way of explaining. What Courtney posted is not a smokey eye, it is a gradient. Don't confuse the two on here, people can be harsh about the distinction sometimes :) hopefully this helps explain.

Hannah and Gabriela are right, the first few are gradient not smokey. The last picture and the one Anupa posted would be the best to follow.

I'm usually not a fan of plugging on here... but I honestly feel like you could be helped by watching a tutorial I put up last week on a daytime smokey eye. Its using browns and does the gradual lightening like the girls have said but I know sometimes its easier to see it in action. It took me a long time to "get" the smokey look too. Maskcara does a great job in explaining in one of her videos as well. Try starting with a lighter brown smokey eye and then transition darker and darker since the darker the color gets the harder blending seems to be.

Thank you girls you all were so helpful! Is there any special brush that you can use for blending? I feel like the blending will be the hardest part and I want the right brush for it!

My favorite brush for blending out really well is the Makeup Geek soft dome brush.
