They say that you should use the opposite color of the color chart to pop your eyes, but if you want to use a concealer you should do the same thing, so it even the colors out..
Like: blue eyes = orange (ish) eyeshadow
Red pimples = green concealer
And so on.. Can't just understand that you should use the same method for popping your eyes and fade out dark circles and red spots etc! Haha. Started thinking about this when I realized that the color chart was no help for me when it came to popping my eyes. Do anyone have a good explanation for this? 😂😂
Posting with an example:
(I borrowed a picture you posted in another thread Holly C, hope that's fine 😇)

Do you mean that you haven't found a color that makes your eyes pop yet? Or do you mean that you don't know how to cancel out your dark circles? I'm a bit confused as to the question :)

The question is that you are supposed to make your eyes pop the same way you are supposed to cancel our redness or discoloration

Yes, that's called color theory. If you use a green color corrector for redness, it will help your foundation to cover the redness better. The same applies to eyes. For example, I have hazel eyes. Reddish eyeshadow makes my eyes look very very green, because red is opposite green on the color wheel. Orange also works, so long as it's a very warm red. If I want my eyes to look brown, I'll use blue or purple as they're closest to the opposite of brown on a color wheel.

Yes, I get that part, I just find it weird that you use the same method for two completely different things.. Like, boil the water if you want ice cubes :p. but this might just be me 😂

Lol well it works :) have you ever thought about how if you mix together yellow and purple paint you'll get brown? But if you put yellow next to purple, each color looks brighter? It's exactly the same. Green over red cancels out and makes a neutral, but red around green makes the green look much brighter because of the contrast.

The difference is that you are putting the opposote color NEXT TO your eyes when making them pop and the opposite color ON TOP OF the blemish to cancel it out. The color cancellation theory actually is more related about to white balancing a photograph where you would use a blue lense/filter to cancel out orange incandescent light.
So the difference is the placement of the pigment in relation to what you're trying to either cover out show off.

@Thea, it works because it's the exact same thing, yet different, lol. when you put blue directly beside an orange colour the two colours really stand out. so when you put shadow on your lid, it helps your eye colour stand out. BUT, if you put green over top of red, the green neutralizes the red it becomes more brown; that's how colour correctors work.. if that makes sense? lol :p.

Completely agree with Mary and Kyra, was about to write it myself! example: try mixing light blue (white+blue) with pink (magenta+white)= neutral color. But put magenta next to cyan blue and "POP!" :-)

I have a degree in colour theory so I've learned a lot about this lol. Complementary colours are colours that are opposite from each other on the colour wheel such as:
- Purple and Yellow
- Red and Green
- Blue and Orange
These colours next to each other makes them really "pop". As for your eye colour, the same rules apply. For example, if you have hazel eyes which are green and brown, red toned colours will bring out the green in the eyes. If you have blue eyes then orange toned colours will make your eyes pop. This doesn't mean you have to always stick to these colours when using eyeshadow. For example if you have blue eyes you don't have to use orange eyeshadow but maybe try a bronze or brown eyeshadow with an orange tint to it.
As for red pimples = green concealer and covering dark undereye circles, the same colour wheel rules still apply. However, these colours are now used to cover up imperfections because of the placement of the colours. I also recommend you experiment with this at home if you have some free time. Get some paint and mix 2 complimentary colours together such as red and green. The colour combination dulls down the intensity of the colour and makes it look more grey/brown and more washed out. It's a technique in painting if you want to make something in the background look like it's far off in the distance, you mix 2 complimentary colours. As for on your skin, it won't necessarily make you look like you have grey or brown spots where you apply the concealer but it will dull down redness/darkness and make it less noticeable.
I hope this helped!
