To me this looks like three colors:
1.) The black
2.) The brown
3.) Probably a skin tone colored used to buff out all the harsh lines.
I typically do my eyes this way. I wouldn't say you necessarily need the third color at the top, but I like it to tie everything together. While it looks intimidating, it's a very simple and quick eye look.

First I would start off with a transition colour. I absolutely love using "Laced" from Urban Decay. I personally think it's a must have for everyone. It's a matte pink/taupe colour and it's amazing for a transition colour. I would apply it in the crease and upward towards the browbone. The lid looks like a black eyeshadow, really intense at the lashline and then blended upwards to the crease. Then it looks like a brown in the crease and blended into the black. Then add a white highlight (NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk) and blend well. Here's a picture of Laced (:
