What's the difference between tanning lotion and spray on tan?

Is there a difference?

I've been trying find something that gives a really light tan look because I am pale and have never really bothered to try tanning because I just burn and then go pale again it I jut stay red for a really long time

And I want something that looks natural but not a really dark orange tan

For me, I actually prefer spray tans, but I get them done at Sun tan city sunless! It's very even, and the color goes on clear, getting darker every hour until you take a shower and the water stops the process! I really like it and the lotion would always end up uneven and annoying for me.
