It's mothers day here in the UK so happy mothers day to any beautylishers mum's and in that spirit I wanted to ask what's the best piece of beauty or makeup advice that's been handed down from your mum.

Before my mum taught me how to do my nails, I admit I was terrible at it. Now I can do it really well. :)

Mine has also told me when doing your skincare routine always pay the same attention to your neck, nobody wants a perfect face but wrinkly neck :) makes sense since her skin is still flawless <3 :)

Take care of that skin and keep those lips soft with Vaseline or anything that makes them smooth.

My mom always said as long as your confident, you can pull off any look. And that nail polish = confidence boost ;-) Happy mother's day from across the sea!

I love the idea of this thread, however I don't recommend putting Vaseline on your face anywhere, it is not good for your face because it locks in oils and dirts, clogging pores and in the long run drying things out.

Regardless though, the best piece of advice concerning beauty that my mom has given me, is to always buy the right color foundation, and blend, blend, blend...

My mom showed me how to tease my hair like a pro...when I was in 3rd grade. I had the best "mall hair" because of her. she also showed me the importance of Dippity Do hairspray. I'm sure I just totally dated myself with that right there.

When I was naive about skin-care..
'Girls are putting lemon on their face?? What is the point of that - it sounds dangerous! Doesn't it destroy your teeth?!'

Don't pick up smoking or tobacco chew habit. My great-grandmother smoked cigars when she was younger and then picked up tobacco chew after losing her sight and couldnt properly hand-roll her cigars. I admired her dearly for her spunky demeanor and mimicked her habits when I was a kid. My mom prayed that those two wouldn't become a habit when I got older.lol.

Am from India and in my country all the beauty tips are passed from generation to generation. My granny told this to my mom and she told it to me. I'll share it with you. Drink a glass of Luke warm water after waking up it will help in proper functioning of your internal system. If you have dry skin massage you body with coconut oil and leave it on your body for 15-20 minute after that you can take shower. I follow this routine only in winters. I apply face pack made of oatmeal lemon and turmeric thrice a week before taking shower. After that I use rose water on my face. At noon I apply honey and lemon juice on my face regularly. on alternate days I apply tomato juice on my face while preparing dinner for rest three days while making dinner I apply cucumber juice mix with honey in summers and carrot juice in winters as they are seasonal vagatables here. Before going to bed I wash my face and apply lemon juice diluted with rose water. I also used other packs all are home made. I rarely use any product on my skin except Johnson and Johnsons baby lotion and creme. Although I have wheatish complexion but I have a glow on my face and a natural pinkish blush on cheeks.

The one thing my mom always tried to reinforce was to embrace my pale, and not to tan. Tanning is so, so bad for my super fair skin, so instead of letting the idea that tan is better get in my head she made sure that I was always wearing sunscreen and learning that fair is beautiful too!

Don't pluck your eyebrow, just let them grow. And every morning, after washing your face, pat your face upwards in circular motion and brush your eyebrows upwards and across.

Very specific but very helpful.
