There are some great YouTube tutorials out there of you want to SEE how to do it. I like makeupbyTiffanyD and Marlena from MakeupgeekTV. But, the biggest thing is to start with a dark color on your outer V, blend it in, and use a gradient of the same shade to add depth. ( :

What i like to do is start by using a eyelid primer, my favorite is Stay Don't Stray by Benefit. After that i use a light campaign color. My two favorites are Champagne, and also Champagne by Smash box. I apply that to my lid only, then from my crease up to my eye brown i apply a vanilla/white color and blend the to together. Now adding the dark color. For a day time smokey eye i use a brown on the outer part of my eyelid, and for night time i use a black! I hope you could visualize that!
