I was wondering what differences there are between tea tree oil and benzoyl peroxide? I've had slight to moderate skin improvement with BP but haven't used it in a while and want to try tea tree oil. I've heard tea tree oil can be used as an alternative to BP, was wondering if that's true?

Tea tree oil varies depending on the person. But I love it because one bottle is used for just about everything from acne to arthritis to lice treatments. It makes a great cleanser.

BP is for pimples and used more as a spot treatment while Tea tree oil is use most as an anti-inflammatory. And while tea tree oil does reduce pimples that's not really it purpose. But it can be used to do so.

Tea tree kills bacteria and fungus, so it's good for reducing the bacteria that causes acne. Benzoyl peroxide also helps with that but it can also clear blocked pores. Tea tree helps reduce inflammation which is helpful when treating acne as well. They both work about the same but they have concluded in studies that tea tree takes a bit longer. I've used both and I have had better results with tea tree oil (from the body shop) I didn't have much drying at all. I usually had more drying with benzoyl peroxide than I did with tea tree.

Caitlin is absolutely right I always recommend tee tree to my clients before benzoyl peroxide because it's more gentle and a anti inflammatory unlike benzoyl peroxide which can dry you out and a lot of people have issues using tree tree works to kill the ance causing bacteria without compromising your skins acid mantel it also helps calm dowm inflamed skin it may take longer to work but it's better for your skin, salicylic acid is the only ingredient that actually can penetrate the pore wall and clean it out
