Honestly, 'HD' is sort of just a gimmick. It usually just means that it photographs well & wont leave a white cast on your face. (Which also means they don't provide any/much SPF protection for your face)
A lot of HD products contain dimethicone, which is an ingredient that helps makeup last longer on the face. Many "HD" powders are just made out of Silica powders, which are a finely milled powder (that are pretty good for oil control)
I've had good experiences with HD products, but don't think they're nothing revolutionary. They're just adding a fancy name to products with certain ingredients that already existed.
