My husband works on a fuel truck and it's been cold and windy and sunny and he has really bad chapped lips. It actually looks burned a bit (poor dude looks like he's wearing lipstick) any recommendations for balms or home remedies to help quicken the healing process for him?

Yeah I was surprised to find out about vaseline not being good.,what about a nappy cream, they generally good for dry skin and also anti bacterial, might look odd but could be quite soothing?:-)

It sounds weird, but nipple cream actually helps super cracked lips. My friend works outside all winter doing construction and she had to go to the doctor because her lips would bleed all the time. He suggested nipple cream. She found one that's all natural, but I don't think there's any bad chemicals in any of them. She uses it everyday now and her lips always look soo hydrated. I haven't tried it but it works for her. another thing is olive oil, it moisturizes a lot, plus it tastes gross on its own so you don't lick it off lol.

Thanks soo much girls! I appreciate the replies. I totally forgot about nipple cream!! I'll smush some into a tiny container and tell him is something else. Thanks alyx haha and I know Maria! I always used Vaseline so I was suprised to see that as well. I love putting in on right before I get into the shower and then after being in there for 15 mins I'll use a lip scrub and scrub it off then when I get out use a regular lippie. My lips are aoo soft and if they are chapped they are usually cured haha, but hubby hates Vaseline lol.

Palmers cocoa butter lip balm is so good for chapped lips! Seen an improvement in mine after the first day. My boyfriend also loved the smell of it :) If he won't wear a lip balm I'd try some coconut oil that works great for me too.

Jack Black lip balm is aimed for use by men, but a lot of ladies here like it too, myself included. My boyfriend loves it. They are in nice blue tubes, aren't girly looking at all, and have a couple different scents from mint, to very neutral shea butter, etc. They are great. No petroleum/Vaseline, although they have that thick Vaseline-like texture. And they also have SPF in them. They aren't super shiny or glossy either.
I also recommend Alba and Fresh. But definitely look for ones that don't contain any petroleum. It doesn't moisturize lips at all. It just seals moisture in, doesn't put anything back. So if your lips are dry and you put Vaseline on them you're sealing in nothing and when you take it off your lips will be just as dry if not worse.

Thanks Caitlin! I didn't know jack black had a lip balm haha. Right now he's using my arbonne lip saver sunscreen with an SPF of 20 which helped my lips a lot. So we will see. And I'll look into the jack black stuff, do you know where to buy it?

Sephora carries it, Ulta might, I haven't ever actually looked for it there. But their site is getjackblack.com.
Also it has nothing to do with the actor Jack Black haha. Just a fun fact. I was kind of disappointed when I found out. I liked the idea of him being this kind of scruffy dude making skincare products haha. Both me and my boyfriend were a little disappointed actually lol

I've also bought a couple tubes on Amazon with good luck but the only place they ever have seemed to be consistently available is Sephora and their site. They're a little more pricey than the typical drugstore balm at $7.50 but they last quite a while. They also have 4 packs for $25. I like them because I get two and my boyfriend gets two and we get to sample all the different flavors lol. I don't recommend the black tea and blackberry however. I think it smells like plastic. And the lavender vanilla definitely is more lavender than vanilla so it can be very strong. Otherwise I like all the other flavors, lemon, mint, shea butter, and grapefruit.

Haha thanks for the heads up Caitlin! And that is a bummer about it not being associated with jack black :( haha and I don't have a sephora here, I'd have to drive to the city, but I think we are planing a reno trip there soon! And $7.50 sounds bad but my lip saver is $10 lol so that's nothing haha and I've never heard of pawpaw cream, sounds like something you use on a dogs paw pads lol.

My boyfriend loves nivea chopstick (the one for women not the one for men). I personally love fresh sugar lip treatment or Vaseline lip therapy

The ingredient in Chapstick that makes you use it more is Vaseline. It seals the skin and doesn't put any moisture in. It simply gives the illusion of moisturized lips. There may be others but that is a huge one and its in many mainstream drugstore brands because it's a cheap ingredient to use.
And Raylene, its an Australian product. Papaw is a term that I believe refers to papaya. I don't know if it's the actual word they use for papaya or if it's just kind of a nickname, but that's what it refers to :) I'd love to try it if only it didn't have the petroleum.

I can't live without my Nivea 'A Kiss Of Smoothness' Chapstick tends to make my lips worse and for years I felt helpless. I started using Nivea about 4 years ago and its the only lip balm that I use all the way to end. I use the light blue one (no tint, or shimmer. completely sheer and odorless). It actually moisturizes instead of leaving a waxy residue behind.
