Hey guys, recently I've been finding myself just doing the same old look over and over again, this includes me doing winged liner and a nude/ pink lip.
I've got black hair and grey/blue eyes & olive skin, I'd really love to be able to pull of a smoky eye, although I personally think black eyeshadow on my eyes can be over powering/harsh and I tend to stay away from silver and blues as it can make me look very tacky, all the girls in my family are very fair, blue eyes, blonde with freckles and the other side in my family is dark haired with dark eyes and olive tones and they both can pull of smoky eyes remarkably, but I just look really odd when I attempt the smoky eye, I don't think I have the right understanding on what colors I should use to flatter my hair eyes and skin, I have tried googling some looks that fit my look but I can't find anyone other than megan fox, but her makeup is always simple, I would really like to explore with smoky eyes but I don't know where to start I'm going mad and neeeed some serious help with this dilema, sorry for ranting on!

black will definitely work for you. the key to smokey eyes is proper blending & the use of transition colours. if you just apply black shadow all over your lid, you'll look like you got punched, lolol.
before even applying black, you want to pick a light, beige type brown & apply that all over the eye. then find a darker brown & focus that more on the crease & upper lid area. then black comes in c: remember, blend blend blend!
I would highly recommend looking up YouTube videos on how to do it. it's kind of a complicated process, ahaha.

I agree with Kyra. It's all in the blending. Make sure each brush you use is clean so you don't muddy the colours. I think a dark look like that would look gorgeous on ya!

You will most likely overdo it and look like you have a black eye, plus it can be very messy to work with.
I suggest picking a colour palette that looks good on you like purples or browns. With this colour palette you can then achieve a smokey eye look and then practice a try black smokey eye. I will post a few pictures of different coloured smokey eyes.
With a smokey eye you want it to be a gradient effect. You want the darkest colour on your lashline and then a gradual fade into more lighter colours towards your brow bone. You can start with a pencil eyeliner on your lashline and smudge it well. Then take the darkest colour whether it be dark brown, dark purple, etc. and blend it well into the smudged eyeliner and blend the colour upward onto the lid. Take a medium colour and blend it into the crease and into the dark colour as well as blending it slightly above the crease. Take a lighter colour and blend it above the crease and downwards into the middle colour. Then add a highlight. Another good trick I have is to use a good transition colour to make your colours blend easily. I highlyyyy recommend purchasing Urban Decay "Laced". It's a matte pinkish taupe eyeshadow. At first I never thought I would use the colour but I loveee using it when I do a smokey eye and I put it on first before any of my other colours. I usually apply it on my crease and blend it upwards towards the brow bone. Sorry if this is confusing but I hope I helped. Also watching a lot of youtube videos can help as well.
