I use it all the time. Whenever I'm tried and need more sleep but can't sleep because I have a busy day. I put cucumber on my eyes to help me wake up. It works and yes it tingles a little but I'm guessing that might just be the juices from the cucumber touching my lashes or something

If it tingles/cools/warms up/ it is usually a sign of irritation.

The cucumber itself is actually not the effective part of this remedy--it's the fact that the cucumber is cool.
At the eye clinic I work at, cold compresses are often recommend as a temporary remedy for "puffy" eyelids and general irritation. If you want a more effective natural remedy, try using chilled green tea bags instead. There is actual evidence that the antioxidants in green tea can be highly beneficial for skin.
