I use a foundation brush, but it actually works with everything even a beauty blender.

It'll depend on what works best for you and what finish you like. I've read reviews and used the old formula and everybody had different ways. Stippling brush, buffing brush, flat foundation brush, beauty blenders or fingers will all work and give different results. Just play around with it and see which way you like best.
