Growing out my hair! Help?

I'm growing out my hair because I'm sick of short hair, but I get split ends like crazy. How do I keep those back yet still grow it out? What can I do to keep my hair strong?

Do you use heat tools often? There are special hair care products for split ends but I havent tried any. (: You could always just wait until it grows and then cut the ends, since you cant reverse split ends. (:

I rarely do. I feel bad, because every so often I'll get a curling iron or a hair dryer as a gift, but I never use them. Once a few years back I used a curling iron for too long and my hair smelled burned for days and days after!
I think that is what I'm going to have to do. Not Your Mother's has a "Way to Grow" shampoo and a conditioner that I used for a while that made my hair super soft and super strong, but work and school have left me too tired to care, so I gave up for a while. I'm getting back into it, though! :)
