In NY you need 1000 hours to take state board. that includes shadowing.
in Cosmo you learn a lot about shapes n colors n how to effectively enhance someone's appearance using them. I took Cosmo then chose not to pursue it.

If you want to do nails in NY you had to do 100 sets I believe.
the good thing about taking Cosmo is that its done in highschool...so when you graduate n everyone goes off to college, you will be going straight into your career

I'm not sure about your country, but in Australia you have to be an Apprentice for 3-4 years to be a hairdresser, and then after that you're still classified as a junior.

Sana, different states and country's all have different requirements. here in the You.S. you are required to take a certain amount of hours of school and then take a final test to be licensed. I would Google and see the requirements for where you live. also I believe you do need at least some artistic talent. its a creative field and requires artistic/creative thinking.

Like the other girls said it just depends where your from and what the board of licensing requires of you, everywhere is different

Like I think everyone has said: everywhere has different rules and amounts you have to work. Your best bet would be to go to cosmetology school and then see what else you have to do in order to pursue the career in your state or country.

I think anyone can go to cosmetology school. What mattered is how you handle yourself after, it will take years to perfect your techniques, build your kit and most importantly build your clientele and connections. It will take serious, serious commitment and probably a long ride on the struggle bus. I think if its your dream tho and you commit, you can do it and be amazing :)

Here in Alberta you don't even have to be certified to do nails. Which goes to show how different every area is, definitely research your area.

I guess, I've never had a problem in professional salons though. The ones I'd be scared of are the ones that work out of home as I'm sure professional places prefer certified girls.

In California you need 1600 hours of cosmetology school and then to take a state board exam. Given that you pass, you get your license, then you can practice and charge in a salon, etc. I'm a licensed professional hairstylist and makeup artist, and I will say 1000000% honestly, it's not easy, but I'm so in love with what I do
