Okay, so about a month ago I got a sidecut. I wanted to get it because it's not only an edgy haircut that I love but I have super thick hair and a lot of it so it makes more manageable. I only got a small section on one side, but am planning to get both and a larger chunk once I'm used to it and it isn't a huge step anymore.
Anyways, I'm having a huge trouble with updos. I find regular ponytails look weird. And googling "updos for sidecuts" just gives you a bunch of updos that slick back the sides. But they are impossible to do without that chunk of hair. I also have long hair (there's pictures of the length on my profile) and the few updos I find are on women with incredibly short hair. And this is more for the days that I don't want my hair down, which is usually just lazy days or days where I'm doing some sort of activity, so I want the style to be able to be done in less than 20 minutes. I've just been doing a side braid on the side without my sidecut, but I'm getting bored of that.
But I hope you guys can help, and if you happen to have photos that would be lovely, but I've been looking for weeks and have only found a couple lol. Thanks in advanced :)

I looks like she used rollers in her hair, and she rolls the hair in instead of out it looks like big rollers, or medium can't tell.

Maybe also some root lifting spray to get volume?

Ashley it was more of the braiding and how she has it tucked that I'm asking about, but thanks for the advice :)

Haha I know right renay? It looks so great on her, but when I try it I either can't get it to look good and it just looks like I piled all my hair on my head or it just doesn't work out at all similar haha. 🙈

I have really thick hair and used to have a one-sided sidecut (that sounds weird) too. When I wanted to put it up I'd start by making a center part, so some of the hair fell down and hid the shaved part. As long as the style was gathered at the nape of the neck at any point, most updos worked for me. Anything that was up and showed the sidecut made me look very off balance, but I think once you have both sides done that will be less of a problem. I think then you could do all sorts of French braid and pompadour looks, even a low bun if you just want to get it out of the way.

I tried looking up "updo for long mohawk" but most were ways to get a faux hawk with long hair :/

Yeah but I'm not getting the second one done till probably next summer unfortunately. I just find updos like buns or ponytails make me look very off balanced, like you said. I still do them, they just don't look as good to me lol.
But I know. Googling ways it's just like "fake a sidecut in this updo" and the part that I'm missing is key to the updo lol. But thank you for trying anyways
