I'm not actually sure what SPF stands for but it's the stuff that's in your sunscreen that protects you from the suns rays and getting sunburnt. As, you can often forget sunscreen under your foundation or don't want to mess up your makeup with sunblock; you can buy foundation and bb cream with the SPF in it so that your face isn't damaged by the sun or burnt.

If you forget to apply a moisturizer (which usually has spf in it) before your foundation then the spf in the foundation will help protect you from the you've. keep in mind not all foundations have spf but its good to purchase a foundation that does for regular use. preferably spf 15 or greater.
