What do you think about men choosing the beauty industry? I'm a man that is passionate about hair and makeup. I can't get enough of it. I'm currently a beauty school student, in the honors program for cutting. I'm very close to graduating! But I'm scared...because I'm a man. I scared that the salon owner or whatever will deny me a job because I'm a male :-/

not true at all some of the best are men, my father owned several salons by the time he retired I would def use a male as a stylist if I didnt do most of my work myself and what I dont do my dad does. Good luck

That sounds excellent, congrats and good luck! I think you'll be surprised about how accepted and appreciated you will be. I have only had four different people touch my hair in my entire life, three of which were men I loved them to death and the other person was a huge mistake (still growing their hair mistake out). I almost feel like there are more men at the salons I have been to in my life. Since I've had amazing experiences with men in the beauty industry, I am actually more inclined to choose a male over a female when finding a new salon. I only have personal male friends in the industry as well, I do not have any female friends that are in the beauty industry. But all of my friends say they are well received and have no trouble finding jobs or clients!

My favorite stylist for 10 yrs was a man. He was so good that at one point I stopped telling him how to style my hair. He just worked his magic and I was happy every time. Sorry female stylists but I'd rather get my hair styled by a man than by a woman. I always have positive outcomes with men stylists. So squash those fears of being denied a job because its no secret that men stylists can produce some awesome outcomes with color and cutting.

I'm with ya, Shelley!
I went to my mom's male hair stylist from the age of 4 to 18 (and I make occasional appointments when I visit my parents) and by the time I was old enough to do cool things to my hair, I would just sit in his chair and say "I trust you.... see you on the other side!" and voilá! I always had the raddest hair everrrr

All of the men i know in the beauty industry are awesome, & i see no reason why anyone should discriminate against you being a male in this industry. I have personally had my hair done by a guy who, in my opinion did an absolutely awesome job. Also, my mom regularly gets her hair done every 2 weeks by .. you guessed it- a male! I love the fact that you're doing your thing & pursuing what you love, regardless of gender :)

My cousin is a hair stylist and he is awesome!!!!! And like you said, if that's your passion, go for it!! Obviously you must be good if your in the honors program. So don't feel discouraged, cuz i feel like now a days there are a lot more men working in salons. Just let your true talent shine and I'm sure once someone sees how great you are, you'll have no trouble finding work :)
