I run a local publication and we get complaints that our Beauty section only highlights make up/hair stuff for white people. I think that they make a good point! The problem is that the only black female I'm close to despises make up. How does the professional black woman do her make up? Are there certain colors that look the best? Foundation tricks?

Really!? We do our make-up just like everyone else! Our skintones come in so many beautiful shades that we can rock just about anything. Do not pigeon-hole women of color into the tired gold and purple family. We love blues, pinks, greens....a rainbow of shades. Foundation issue....it takes a true Picasso to get that right. Research the make-up lines of Bobbi Brown and Kevin Aucoin to get an idea of how unique our skintones are and how to properly address our various issues (reference their books). Maybe your publication needs to look into hiring an African American so the diversity will translate in the pages of your magazine.
