Why do people smoke or drink or drive or cut themselves? Because our species is a bit suicidal. Just say your part and let it go because a lot of people don't care or don't want to know and you can't force them to.
Second reason is people are impatient and want results quickly and don't care how it effects them later in life.
If someones doing something awful to themselves and don't want to listen just leave them. You can try again when they make a thread for help correcting the damage

I don't think anyone does this because they know it will harm their skin. I think people do things like this because they've heard it's good from someone/somewhere, or have been misinformed on the internet. Also I agree with Paula, everyone's skin works differently and something that didn't work for you might work for someone else, even if yes it can be drying or harmful, such as toothpaste. I also agree with Caitriona.
Its not really a question of "why do people harm their skin?" I'm sure they're not meaning to! It's more like, "why do people make uninformed decisions about their bodies without doing research?"

I've heard of using bleach on elbows? But never on face or anything like that. Toothpaste is drying, which is why some girls use it as spot treatment but I've heard to use white not the gel like kind, I've never used it on my face though only once on a huge dime sized pimple on my shoulder caused by my extensions and sweat an it worked.
But I agree with Emily it's just misinformation, and you can't change anyone if it bothers you just don't do it to yourself and don't insult whoever does, not you Leona, but the other girls. I think most of this home remedies come from different cultures. Let me show you an example. My grandma believes killing a Criket is bad luck, burning sage is good luck and furniture placement defines the good and bad vibes you receive. Of course I don't believe in any of that, I find it silly but I'm not going to go around questioning why they do it And telling her shes wrong. Everything is cultural and what works for some May not work for you. What is normal for some May not be normal for you.

That's not the point I never said it didn't work what I mean is it's damaging. That's the whole point.
