So I have been going back and forth with make up foundations. I still haven't found the right one. I tried bared minerals powder, cover fx liquid and powder, tarte, and clinque but I am thinking it is my primer that is making me break out. I am currently using the hourglass one which is suppose to be amazing but I think it is making me break out. Are primers really necessary or can you just put on make up? I have oily/ acne prone skin so I'm not sure if primers just don't work well for certain people?

No but moisturizer is necessary to give the foundation a base to adhere to - but primers are not necessary - most foundations either set themselves over moisturizer or you can set it with powder so you don't absolutely need a primer - I think I saw Wayne goss to a video about why he hates primers :P.

Thank you seline and Diana! I'm glad I'm not the only one that felt them not necessary!

I watched a girl on YouTube who actually went to Mac school and she said primers were stupid. Lol. But yeah, you need a moisturizer for sure. But primers aren't anything special.

Do you any of you have my oily/ acne prone skin type and if so what moisturizer do you use? Can you use a sunscreen as moisturizer?

I'm pretty sure that primer is moderately comedogenic.
That being said, I actually only use that primer on my fine lines and under my eyes on my pores, and my nose. It makes a nice difference but I only like to apply primers where I see beneficial. Sunscreen wouldn't make a good moisturizer.

I don't use primer except a "blurring primer" under my eyes when they're puffy or if my blackheads are really bad. But I never use it all over.

I use a tea tree oil moisturizer by desert essence but it lacks SPF so I mix it with the neutrogena clear face SPF.

Thank you girl! I have to look into the cotz sunscreen and tea tree oil moisturizer! And I'm sorry seline! I realized you said cotz in your first response, but the name sounded odd so I thought it was a typo!
