Help French Braid

I can not for the life of me French braid!! Any tips or tricks? My hair is so thick and oddly curly I have to keep it up all of the time.  :(

It's really difficult to do on your own. The easiest thing to do is braid it when its wet. You can handle it better (I have the same problem with my hair :)).
