Hi ladies. I am returning a product to sephora sometime this week, and would like to pick up a new face wash and moisturizer.
My skin ranges daily from moderately oily to looking as though I've slept on a pillowcase full of greasy french fries - ha ha. I also have pretty bad black heads on my t-zone, that I can keep somewhat under control by using my clarisonic a few times a week. I also get really bad dry skin in the places where I am most oily. It will be flaky and oily at the same time, which is complete nonsense!
I'm tired of buying drug store products only to find out they make my skin go crazy, creating more oil than what I started with. The stuff I'm using now is tolerable, unlike most that end up in the trash or being given away after I've tired it a few times. I will include a pic below. I have yet to find a moisturizer that I can actually use. I know my skin is probably dying to be moisturized, but all moisturizers I have bought and tried over the last few years make my skin worse. I'm at a loss.
I need some feedback on skin care products found at Sephora that may help me. I have been eyeing Clinique's 3 Step Skin Care for a while now, but have never used any of their products so I'm hesitant. And, my main goal is to find a moisturizer that's compatible with my skin.
I'm also interested in hearing from those who also suffer from dry/ super oily skin and what you guys do to keep it under control.
Thanks! 😀

I have zuper dooper oily skin like yours, acne prone and sensitive too. I would suggest you look into the Peter Thomas Roth line at Sephora, they have products with AHA and BHA which help my skin. Only, I don't like their moisturisers. I only use 100 % jojoba oil for moisturising.

Lol I thought I was alone with super oily skin with rough flakey patches in the same spot!! I have tried the clinique line, it's not too bad but after about a year my skin decided it didn't like it anymore, but I felt clinique worked better than proactive, and much better than any basic drug store brand. Currently I make my own facial products, but I hope you find something that works for you!

If I don't keep a good skin routine I get crazy oily. I also get dry patches on my nose (which is the most oily) and my cheeks. I found that using my clarisonic every night helps immensely, along with heavy duty moisturizing. at night I use first aid beauty ultra repair cream then Maricuja oil or Argan oil. mornings I just use the oil. Oil helps combat oil and I swear its the only thing that keeps my face balanced.

Ame- I will definitely look over that brand while I'm there. How long have you been using the jojoba oil? Does it worsen oiliness at all?
Jen- dude, you are not alone! It doesn't make sense to have flakes on top of oil. I was told by a Clinique representative that the oil causes the dry skin flakes to stick to your skin, or something along those lines. It kind of made sense but then I was thinking she just really wanted me to buy something lol. How do you make your own? What ingredients do you use?
Kelly- I definitely agree with you on the clarisonic thing. It's funny bc I've had one for about 2 years and absolutely HATED it when I bought it. It irritated the crap out of my skin, making it all red and bumpy, especially on my cheek bones. I didn't use it for quite a while, then purchased the sensitive skin brush head and began to use it regularly, esp when I realized how well it minimized my black heads. I also have less rough patches. I can definitely tell a difference when I get lazy and don't use it for a few days. Also, I've been wanting to try the oil thing. Maybe that will solve my issues... It's one of the few things I haven't tried on my face yet.

I went to the library and found some books that had older skin care remedy recipies in them ( I originally was looking for plant care books and found the recipies in the back!) my facial wash is made from castle soap ( 1 tbsp soap mixed in 1 cup water) for toner I use a dandelion/ marigold/ lavender tinctures mixed with witch hazel and almond oil, for night time I use a basic cold cream recipie ( from the book Better Basics for the Home by Annie Berthold-Bond). Oh and with anything homemade always patch test first, and be sure to keep an eye on the smell. if it smells rancid it probably is and should be tossed! lol if you can cook this is a lot simpler than it seems, honestly making chili is more difficult once you have the recipies!

So I am SUPER oily, and the only thing that makes my skin happy and joyful is using oil as a moisturizer. I LOVE organic rose hip seed oil. I honestly use ONLY that after you wash my face at night and haven't out anything else in my skin at night for almost 2 years now. My skin has transformed. Sure it gets oily once in a while (esp during that lovely time of month) but other than that, I'm really happy with my skin.

The jojoba oil is actually a natural wax which is verrrrry similar to the sebum that human body produces (or simply, the oil on your face) , it has, in my experience, lessened the appearance of oil and shine on my face.

You can have oily dehydrated skin , oily skin will still be flaky , try using a gentle non stripping cleanser like cerave hydrating cleanser ,tone with a alcohol free toner and try using a little jojoba oil, it mimics your own natural lipids so it kind of tricks your skin into not over producing as much oil
