So I think sodium lauryl sulfate MAY be a carcinogen. But what is sodium laureth sulfate as bad? I have just purchased Tresseme Hair Spa Rejuvenation Shampoo and I really like how it makes my hair feel and look. BUT the 1st ingredient in it is Sodium Laureth Sulfate.
Could you lovely ladies help me out on figuring out if that's just a cleansing agent or really bad for hair?
Thanks in advance! :)

Sodium laureth sulfate is in most shampoos, it's what gets all the dirt and oils out of your hair.. although sulfate free is the way to go because it's a chemical, I think you'll be fine.

It's actually a very debatable thing right now.. it's being tested if sulfate products are causing cancer.. if you look it up, you'll get more information. One use won't hurt.. but everyday use is pretty risky. I've read all of this information online, so there's always the question on whether it's reliable or not, although it does seem pretty reliable, you can never be too sure.

I did do a lot of reading and the conclusion was that the link is not proved yet. I wash probably twice or thrice a week and find that most sulfate free shampoos don't clean my scalp as well as this one. So I thought I'd ask here...

Yea, I said it's being tested. Sulfate in general is just a dangerous chemical. Minimal use is highly recommended. You're welcome hun!

It simply provides the suds for shampoos and face cleansers feeding into the thought that the shampoo is getting rid of all the junk. Over time for some users it does dry out the hair and scalp and its advised not to use on colored/highlighted hair unless you're purposely trying to fade/or strip the color. As far as it being dangerous...don't fall for the extremist thought process. It would have to go thru over 20+ years of solid testing to confirm their hypothesis that its indeed completely unsafe and the percentage of SLS put in most products aren't even at high enough levels to result in toxicity in the body thru the skin. @Shanae...yes you are indeed correct to question the reliability of online sources as a lot it is incorrect. Some great sources to pull up info like this is looking at dermatology journals (can be found at the library), dermo textbooks. My husband has a cosmetics labs and is a dermo so his textbooks and notes is where I source my info because its unbiased...no hidden pitch man trying to create insane fear in people.
