I just got tatted for the first time a couple days ago. I have a couple questions for everyone who has one already:
1. What's the healing process like?
-mine was swollen and tender for two days but now it's fine. No peeling or itching yet.
2. Do all tats peel?
3. How do you take care of yours?
4. Do's and Don'ts!
Share yours! Photos are welcome 😊
Xoxo,
Lola Symone 💋

Did your tattoo artist not explain all that to you or do you just want more insight? Bc they should explain that. All of mine peeled and for the most part I left them alone. If you apply too much ointment they will bleed. A thin layer is all you need and after a few days I just use a light frangrance free lotion and let it do it's thing and heal.

-it's on my inner left forearm. About 3-4 inches
-I paid $30! I got half off for my connections with the artist and I had to wait 1hr and a half after my set appointment. It's normally $60-65
-It didn't hurt at all to me. I felt the vibration more than the needle. It made me sleepy if anything 😝
-I put aquaphor on it 2x a day. And clean it antibacterial soap and no wash cloth.
-I wear sleeves all the time now

My artist did explain but I was curious what everyone does.

Mine only peeled in spots that I didn't get as much ointment on as I should have. It itched badly the second and third day but that was all. I had mine re-touched about 3 weeks later and it is lovely. Also, mine didn't bleed at all.

Awwww! I love your tat @Elizabeth! It's soooo nice. It must of hurt! How was your experience with that?

I really didn't think it hurt all that much. If you ever played with a needle as a child and ran it under the first layer or two of skin on your finger is what most of it felt like. It was more tender between the ribs though.

Oh really? People always say ribs are one of the most painful spots. That's good to know! I'm already planning for my next one in a couple months

I have 7, do not scratch! That's a biggie! Whenever you feel the urge to itch it, slap it instead. I always make sure to keep it highly lubricated in a&d ointment and covered the first few days to give it time to heal, don't keep it covered for weeks at a time though, it needs to breath! Yes, all my tattoos have peeled, slight color will peel too, but don't freak out, it won't change the way it looks once healed.
And when showering at night make sure and use an antibacterial soap to help lessen the chance of any infection because your pores are open and vulnerable!
Enjoy it. ((: they are quite addicting!

@Hallie, such good advice! You're a pro lol. I want a ton now! They are so addicting. I'm like obsessed. And thanks for the tips. It is starting to look like dry skin (so it may peel) and itch a little.

I want tattoos when I get a tad bit older, as I'm only 17, everyone has such beautiful tattoos! This is such a helpful post, I'm screen shotting everything lol.

Sadly, I'm only on one tattoo for now. I plan in adding in to it in January or February.
It's a pretty big one for being my first, and was on one of the (said) most painful places (shoulder)... However, that wasn't true, for me.
Pain: the pain for me was a literal 1 out of 10. I actually loved the feeling, lol. It tingled. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but I'll admit I was scared...I don't even know why. Lol.
Time: my tattoo took 2 hours and 45 minutes straight.
Price: free, considering my mom is a good friend of the artist. Half of her tattoos are from him.
Aftercare: aquaphor, in a thin layer, every morning and night for like three days. What sucked about that, was trying to sleep on it lol. I didn't have much peeling nor itching at all, mine healed fairly quickly and with no problems. It was only tender for like a day and a half. I personally say you need to let your tattoo breath , don't cover it with tight clothing. I wroe tube tops for a week after haha, or loose muscle tanks.
Overall experience: I Ike it, I don't love it...and I know you're like, what the hell'? Lol. I do love the roses, they have beautiful detail ( camera does no justice ) and it has some meaning but I let my artist free hand the roses and I don't really like the placement of a few (the ones on my arm ) ; I'll be adding on which I may have something covering those though so it's fine. Just comes to show to really pay attention and talk through with your artist to the T.
Sorry for the crappy picture, I took it on my laptop just now so the quality is dark, pixelated, and crappy. Does my tat no justice lol

All mine have peeled, but I use aquaphor on them to keep them moisturized and they're all fine..
Do: moisturize frequently, even up to a few times a day if you have to, put sunscreen on it everyday if it's visible
Don't: let them use scrubs on it during a pedicure (one of mine is in the top of my foot), don't leave it unmoisturized, don't let it get much sun without sunscreen
