Does it have a clamp? If so, try not using it and just wrap 1 inch pieces of hair around the barrel for 15 seconds. It also depends on how hot it goes or if you have really thick hair. Also try curling your hair when you have day old hair, the natural oils in your hair will help create healthy, shiny looking curls. Use a heat protector too!! :)

For me I hold the barrel face down and wrap the hair around it and twist as I'm wrapping. This helps give a nice bouncy wavy! I never use the clamp either.
