You can wrap your plugs in tape to slowly bring you up in size, this method will prevent blow outs.

Okay, well when I was at 6mm and tried to go to 8 it was the worst size for me personally to get in, I did tear my ear a little but because I already got it in I decided I'd rather take the time to clean it at 8mm with a saline solution twice a day apposed to staying at 6 and waiting til my ear decided it wanted to stretch to 8, even though I'd waited 3 months to go to 8 I still had issues with it in my right ear so just take your time, I too think gradually going up to 8 is the best way to go, you could even look for a 7mm taper to avoid having to go straight to 8 and make it a little easier :)
