@Vu:
<<I know higher end shampoos are supposedly better quality and better for you>>

The ingredients in higher-end shampoos are no different from the ones in drugstore brands. The only reason hairstylists say higher-end ones are better is to sell you product. The best products are the ones that work best for *you*.

@Jocelyn:
<< not all that chemicals higher end shampoos have >>

*Everything* in shampoos -- high-end, drugstore, all-natural -- is a chemical. Chemicals can be found in the foods you eat every day, even ones that came from the ground or were picked off a tree, even if they were organically grown. Your body is made of chemicals. Even water is a chemical (dihydrogen monoxide). It's the *dose* that makes the poison. Don't buy into the scaremongering BS.

^^^ exactly!

I actually like treseme conditioner better than most high end brands. I like their shampoo too.
Yes some professional products I find to be way better but it's not always the case.

My best friend is a hair dresser and she shouts at me all the time if i tell her iv bought a drug store shampoo & conditioner, she isnt telling me this so that she can sell me stuff, she gives it to me at cost price when she goes to Sallys.
She was telling me the othet day how Tresemme is particularly bad because it doesnt help your hair in the slightest, it just masks the hair in a thin layer, meaning when you swap to a different shampoo, that washes all the horrible tresemme stuff away and makes your hair feel awful, which makes you go back and buy tresemme. To get the proper benefits of any shampoo you have to lather and rinse twice and keep using the same one for a few weeks. If any shampoo gives you instant results its probably worse than anything else you could use for actual hair helth.

doesnt mean high end shampoo are good cause of their high cost. even high end shampoo contains chemicals.as much as drug stores.

Anything with sulfates or lots of lather is bad for the hair, colored or not. A lot of high end companies state sulfate free but they lather like crazy. I go with brands like Organix and Macadamia Oil. Organix is super cheap and has made my hair a lot healthier! It's all about the ingredients in the shampoo.

use wen...its amazinb and it doesn't lather...which means its not drying out your hair

Also watch out for wax in any shampoo or conditioners because that's what is coating the hair and giving false positive results, it's temporary, unhelpful to whatever the hair may really need

@tilly, why does she go
To Sally's if she is a hairdresser? Sally's products are NOT at cost. Cosmoprof is but you have to be licensed to shop there.

I've worked in many hair salons and yes some professional products are better but honestly a lot of lower priced things have the same ingredients.

@avery maybe she doesn't live close or in a state that has cosmoprof. I don't have a cosmoprof but I have Armstrong McCall.

Tilly I'm sorry but that advice to lather and rinse twice is just wrong!! There should be no need to wash twice unless you've done a messy hair treatment or something.

She goes to Sallys like once a month for anything she needs, she doesnt own the salon that she works at so i dont know where her boss gets supplies from. When i said 'cost' i meant cost to her, as in she makes no profit from me. She also told me the that you shampoo and rinse, which opens the cuticles in your hair. Then you do it again to get any extra crap out, then condition to close the cuticles. Meaning your hair is super clean which allows it to grow better.

It's not that you won't like drugstore, they just literally do nothing for your hair. The reason that shampoos and conditioners cost more is because they put research into making those products work. They take time to chemically alter the formula to make sure it does what it says! It's just like anything else in life... You get what you pay for! And I'm not saying that cheaper things can't work... Everyone has different hair, skin, and wants different results out if the product you use. It's all about personal preference! But the science is there!
