I'm so clueless when it comes to hair lol. About a month ago I had my hair dyed a gorgeous purple red colour but now it's pretty much all washed out... My hairdresser had recommended I get a toner put in 4-6 weeks after I coloured my hair. What does a toner do? Is it even worth it since most of the colour has faded?

I think you want to tone it when your hair first gets dyed to even out the color and to get rid of brassy ness

A toner is basically a semi permanent hair colour that will grab your hair more if your hair at this stage of dyeing it is quite porous. It will last only a few washes but should even out the colour and tone of your hair to the colour that was dyed before. Hope this helps xx

The more you colour your hair the more the colour will grab and stay in rather than wash out. xx

It helps balance out the pH in your skin.
