Lost on what to do for homecoming?

I'm a freshmen and I was just asked to homecoming by a male friend. It's in a few weeks, and I have no idea what to wear. Help? The dress must-
•look good with converse/booties/docs (he's like my height and I don't want to be taller)
•be flattering. I'm very insecure about my body, and would really appreciate it if I felt nice in the dress. I'm not the thinnest, and I'm not a fan of my legs. Skater styles tend to look best on me, rather than things that are super tight. I'd also prefer nothing strapless.
•as for color, anything goes. I really like gem tones and deep colors, but I'm open to everything.
If it helps, I'm 5'5 or 5'6, and I have dark brown sorta ombréd hair to my chest and green eyes. I'm also extremely pale. Hair and makeup ideas would be lovely too. Thank you all!

Ooh I love all of those. Especially the fourth. And I was thinking sorta on the darker side. For every day I usually do foundation, winged eyeliner, mascara, and some lip balm or gloss.

I got a black J Lo skaterish style dress for my neighbors daughters sweet 16. We took a cool statement necklace apart and ditched it to the collar of the dress. You could look into something like that and match the color of you necklace and chucks.
