Didn't turn out how I wanted it too but it still looks good :)
I used the chunky twist.
I'm going to try the Bantu knot now and see what I get.

Cute cute. Another way you can do that is to wet your hair (you can and should do this after a shower. Preferably at night) divide your hair into two. Put half on one side (on you're left shoulder) and the other half on the other side. (You're right shoulder, of course :3). Take the hair on your left shoulder and divide it into three different strands (the amount of strands depends on how thick your hair is). Takes those tree strands and braid them SEPARATELY till you have THREE braids on your left side. Do the same thing to the hair on your right side. Once it dries (or you wake up) take them carefully out of your hair. You may have to tune it down a bit. When I do this I usually keep it all down or I take a a little of the hair that's above my ears (leaving out the bangs) and pull it back; creating the half up half down look.

I usually just do a part down the middle, and make 2 French braids, that makes gorgeous waves :)

Looks good but if your hair is only slightly damp not wet and the pieces of hair that you twist together are bigger chunks of hair instead of more little pieces twisted together you will get more curls then waves :)

I find that braiding the hair, but twisting the three sections that I'm using before braiding them, gives me great curls.

I just realized that might've been what you did in the first picture. It wouldn't load before I posted my comment. If so, then sorry! Disregard my statement since it didn't give you the result you were hoping for (:
