So I've been trying for days now to achieve this retro pomp and have failed. Does anyone have any tips besides going on YouTube?

set your hair with foam rollers, comb through afterwards, tease lightly for the top part.... :)

Try wrapping your hair around the curling iron or using a wand. You can achieve a retro curly look without messing with rollers.

that's true, I just happen to like rollers, curls have the best staying power when they dry in that position, the way hair dries should be the primary means of styling rather than heat is a school of thought to create less damage. And we can always add our input politely without discrediting others opinions, too ;)
