I think you have to bleach it to get it a true pastel color :)

You have to bleach it almost white to have pastel hair. I'd suggest going to a salon.

Alyx can bleaching harm your natural hair?
Sep 10, 2014
Alyx T.
Bleaching can damage it if done improperly or all at once, but if done by a professional that knows what they're doing, a little trim and some deep hair masks will be enough to fix the dryness caused by the bleaching. If you get it done properly it will not be super damaged. Don't do it by yourself though.

Don't do it yourself! trying to bleach natural hair that dark is just going to cause it to lift orange if you DIY and you won't be able to get the results you want. a professional will be able to lift your hair past the orange stage so your pastel will be true to color.

Since your hair is so dark, you need to bleach it. Go to a professional because it will be a 2 step. Use oils n deep condish so your hair isn't too fried.

You'll definitely need to bleach it but I don't recommend doing it yourself if you don't know what you're doing. I agree with Emily and Alyx.

Okay! Well since your hair is dark naturally it might take a few sessions with your hairdresser to get it to a light enough shade for a pastel colour.

And just be careful who you go to to get it bleached. I went to a professional to get my hair bleached and she really messed it up :/

Pastel colors are a pain in the butt. your hair has to be white to get the true color of the pastel. Getting black hair to white is close to impossible with out damage. honestly, if you came into my salon and said you wanted pastel hair I would probably say no just because I dint know what condition your hair would be in when I was done and ruining someone's hair is not on my agenda. if you do decide to get this done, then go to a good salon with a good reputation. and just be prepared for some damage.

You'll have to bleach it. My hair had to be white to take pastel colors :( I did go from dyed blue black to this color though haha. It takes time but you can achieve it if you're patient :) good luck!

You'll have to lighten your hair as everyone has said. Yes there will be damage but if your hair is naturally black and doesn't have any previous hair color or henna on it then it shouldn't be a problem at all. Just stop around at a few salons and ask if they're comfortable with doing such a drastic transition. Some stylists aren't and some are. In the salon where I work I'm the only one who does most of the color services. The other girls only do color rinses and they aren't too comfortable with doing the things that some people ask for. A picture of the color you want is major. Have it saved on your phone or print it out. Tell them what you like and don't like.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend pastels. They are lovely but they don't have enough pigment to last very long. In the end, the lightening process and the damage of going from black to platinum won't be worth it.
If you do decide to give it a go, I would start with a few pieces and not your entire head. Though, if you want to completely go for it, please ask the colorist to give your hair a conditioning mask between each lightening if she doesn't recommend it first.
