I think two times.
I recently helped my friend dye her hair a pastel pink. She started off with a deep wine burgundy color. The first time we bleached it the results were almost a gingery blonde with some brassy tones. After two days we bleached it one last time to a almost white blonde. From there she went forward and dyed it pink.

I wouldn't recommend bleaching your hair more than once in one sitting, your hair could be very vulnerable, compromised and swollen, it can definitely result in messing the elasticity levels of your hair, and hair breakage.
